You'll play a vital role in fostering the growth and development of infants and toddlers. Your work will center around supporting teachers to nurture the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and linguistic development of young children. You'll ensure that learning environments are warm and welcoming, providing responsive caregiving in a well-organized and well-managed space. Your efforts will create a supportive environment that promotes learning and developmental milestones. You'll also assist in age-appropriate classroom management, helping to maintain a space that fosters both security and exploration.
By building strong relationships with families, you'll support the parent-child bond and contribute to the child's overall development, school readiness, and well-being. As a Floater Teacher, your assignment will vary, depending on the needs of the center, providing flexibility and opportunities for diverse classroom experiences.

Key Responsibilities
Ensure Compliance & Safety:
Familiarize yourself with and follow Head Start Program Performance Standards, state licensing requirements, and all relevant policies and procedures.
Foster an open, friendly, and respectful relationship with all staff, families, and children, being mindful of cultural diversity.
Ensure that all children and staff are safe by adhering to written safety standards and maintaining confidentiality.
Classroom and Environment Support:
Provide breaks for teaching staff as assigned.
Set up and maintain a healthy, safe indoor and outdoor environment for children.
Conduct daily safety checks for playground areas and ensure proper set-up and clean-up.
Be proactive in identifying and reporting any signs of illness, discomfort, or unusual behavior in children.
Follow the necessary steps for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect as mandated.
Maintain organized, clean classrooms, storage areas, and office spaces.
Adhere to all health and safety policies and report any hazards.
Supervise and ensure the safety of all children during activities.
Curriculum and Teaching Support:
Assist with the implementation of the curriculum while providing a nurturing and language-rich environment that supports social and emotional growth.
Foster an atmosphere conducive to learning, where children feel safe, welcomed, and valued, honoring their cultural backgrounds.
Family Engagement:
Create a space that encourages parental involvement and engagement, modeling positive guidance techniques.
General Support and Responsibilities:
Assist with food services and classroom needs as requested.
Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions to continually enhance your skills.
Ensure the maintenance and security of the facility, as well as help with inventory management.
Assist with laundry and daily cleaning routines to keep classrooms and restrooms well-stocked and organized.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and center's operations.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to lift infants and toddlers up to 40 pounds, occasionally lifting 50 pounds. You must be able to bend, kneel, sit on the floor, and maintain physical engagement with children for up to 75% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED with Child Development Associate (CDA) program completion. If the CDA is not completed, enrollment in a CDA program is required.
Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
Basic computer skills.
A valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and liability insurance (if applicable).
In states using public transportation, a valid state ID is required.
Preferred Experience
CDA credential in Infant and Toddler (current).
Associate degree or higher in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of recent, paid experience in a childcare or preschool setting.
Familiarity with Head Start Performance Standards.
Additional Information
All applicants must pass a mandatory criminal background check and a bilingual language test (if required).
Employees may need to undergo periodic physical exams and TB clearances.
The role may require lifting and moving equipment or supplies, as well as occasional physical activity in a classroom setting.
